Mr. Williams was retired from the U.S. Forest Service.
He was also a farmer and a cattleman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Lee Mathis Williams;
his parents, Luther Williams and Judy Dunaway Williams; three brothers,
Luther and Harold Williams and Iverson Ewell; and one sister, Annie Delee.
He was survived by one son, Charles Williams of Baton Rouge, LA; two daughters,
Doris Snider of Gloster and Inez Kinabrew of Bogalusa, LA; one brother,
W. M. Ewell of Centreville; 6 grandchildrenand and 9 great-grandchildren.

Jessie M. Proudfoot
Proudfoot
Jessie Mae Mathis Proudfoot, 86, of Talbott Road, Route 1,
Belington, died Saturday evening, Oct. 28, 2006, in Davis
Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.
She was born Jan. 30, 1920, at Buffalo, Wilkenson County,
Miss., a daughter of the late Jesse Edward and Ruby Valley
(Henley) Mathis.
On May 6, 1945, she was married to Herman Joshua Proudfoot,
who survives at Belington.
Also surviving are two daughters, Rose Sikora and Ruby Ware
and husband, Donald, all of Belington; two sons, Herman
Proudfoot Jr. and wife, Pat, and George Proudfoot and wife,
Dana, all of Belington; nine grandchildren, Paula Mitchell
and husband, Steve, Rochelle Watson and husband, Thomas, Gina
Ware, Clifton Ware, Tori Ward and husband, Jason, Kylie Payne
and husband, Chris, Lindy Proudfoot, Belinda Baker and husband,
Ray, Craig Proudfoot and wife, Malinda; 16 great-grandchildren,
Beth, Dakota and Grayson Mitchell, Joshua, Brooklyn and Logan
Watson, Zo? and Phaedra Payne, J. T., Noah and Jorjalyn Ward,
Moriah and Sarah Baker, Ashley and Samantha Proudfoot and
Jeremy Kisner.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Minnie Enlow,
Ruby Williams and Hazel Sturges; and three brothers, Harold,
Joe and Willie Mathis.
Mrs. Proudfoot was a veteran of World War II, having served
with the 4105th Army Air Force Base Unit. She served as an
engine lathe operator at Brooklay Field in Mobile, Ala., and
at Walker Air Force Base, Victoria, Kan. Following military
service and her marriage, she worked for Reidbord Brothers
Clothing Manufacturers in its Elkins and Philippi plants. She
was also a homemaker and loved to work on the farm. She had a
fondness for animals and a special love for horses. She was the
best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend
anyone could ask for. She has gone home to be with her Lord.
Mrs. Proudfoot was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church
in Belington. She was also a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29
American Legion in Elkins and the Ladies Auxiliary of Laurel
Mountain Post 410 Veterans of Foreign Wars at Belington. She
had been a member of Talbott Farm Women?s Club and had been
active in Barbour County 4-H.
Funeral services will be conducted from Schoonover-Stemple
Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Ave., Belington, at 11 a.m. Tuesday,
Oct. 31, with the Rev. Arden Beck and the Rev. Robert Baer Jr.
officiating. Interment will follow in the Talbott Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Monday and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday. The family requests
that memorials take the form of donations to Barbour County Good
Samaritan Center, Asbury United Methodist Church Women or Light of
Christ Chapel Fellowship. The Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel is
entrusted with the arrangements.

Herman Proudfoot
Herman Joshua Proudfoot, 85, of Talbott Community, Route 1, Belington,
died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, in Barbour County Good Samaritan Center
under the loving care of Mountain Hospice.
He was born Aug. 17, 1922, at Talbott Community, a son of the late Ervin
Shafter and Sylvia Pearl (Foy) Proudfoot.
On May 6, 1945, he married the former Jessie Mae Mathis, who preceded him
in death on Oct. 28, 2006.
Survivors include two daughters, Rose Sikora and Ruby Ware and husband,
Donald, all of Talbott Community; two sons, Herman Proudfoot Jr. and wife
Pat, of Talbott Community and George Proudfoot and wife, Dana, of Belington;
nine grandchildren, Paula Mitchell and husband, Steve, Rochelle Watson and
husband, Thomas, Gina Ware and fiancé, Jason Wolfe, Clifton Ware and girlfriend,
Tessa Yokum, Tori Ward and husband, Jason, Kylie Payne and husband, Chris, Lindy
Proudfoot, Belinda Baker and husband, Ray, and Craig Proudfoot and wife, Malinda;
16 great-grandchildren, Beth, Dakota and Grayson Mitchell, Joshua, Brooklyn and
Logan Watson, Zoé, and Phaedra Payne, J.T., Noah and Jorjalyn Ward, Moriah and
Sarah Baker, Ashley and Samantha Proudfoot and Jeremy Kisner; twin brothers, Noel
Proudfoot and wife Henrietta, of New Bern, N.C., and Neil Proudfoot of Wooster,
Ohio.; two sisters, Zelma Yeager and husband, Sterling, of Elkins and Mary Belle
Simmons and husband, Carl, of Kirkland, Wash.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He also welcomed into his extended family the beloved staff and residents of Barbour
County Good Samaritan Center and the staff of Mountain Hospice.
Mr. Proudfoot was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Warren Proudfoot and wife,
Winifred; by one sister, Elda June Yeager and husband, Graydon; by one sister-in-law,
Patricia Proudfoot; and by a niece, Jennifer Proudfoot.
Mr. Proudfoot was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Air Corps 383rd
Bomb Group as a truck driver and mechanic. Following military service, he worked for
at time for Benson Lumber and United Parcel Service. He owned and operated his own
timbering business and trucking company, hauling coal. He also operated a family farm.
In his spare time, he enjoyed camping with his wife and family. He loved to spend time
with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the past 13 months, he loved to
brighten the days of his family and the staff and residents of the Good Samaritan
Center. He was the best husband, father, grandfather and friend anyone could ask for.
He has gone home to be with the Lord.
Mr. Proudfoot was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Belington. He was
a life member of Laurel Mountain Post 410 Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of H.W.
Daniels Post 29, American Legion and a member of the National Rifle Association and
had served as a trustee at Talbott Church for several years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, from the
Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Ave., Belington. The Rev. Arden Beck
and the Rev. Mark Bitner will officiate and interment will follow in Talbott Cemetery,
where Barbour County Post 44, American Legion will conduct military rites.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday and
from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday. The family requests memorials in the
form of contributions to Barbour County Good Samaritan Center or to Mountain Hospice.
Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements. From 14 Sep 2007.

Buried At Mt. Carmel
Funeral services for Mrs. John
C. Haynes were held at Mt. Car-
mel Methodist Church Sunday,
June 5, at 11 a.m. i\Interment was
in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Officiating at the final rites
were Rev. Delos Cassels, Assisted
by Rev. J. Early Gray, pastor of
the church, and Rev. J. W. Price.
Mrs. Haynes was 69 years of
age, having been born in the
Silver Creek community of Wil-
kinson county on April 6, 1880.
She was the daughter of the late
George W. Mathis and Eliza En-
low and was married to Mr. Hay-
nes of Dec. 16, 1903.
Since her marriage she has
been a trustworthy and valued
citizen and a credit to her com-
munity and her neighborhood
church of Mt. Carmel. She spent
a very useful life and was very
acive until three years ago
when she began suffering from
a heart allment. She died very
suddenly Friday, June 3, at 1:30
p.m. At the home of her daugh-
ter, Mrs W. D. Anderson, in Woodville.
Mrs. Haynes is survived by her
husband, John c. Haynes, a son,
Clarence C. Haynes, both of
Gloster; and two daughters,
Mrs. Mary White of Gloster and
Mrs. Willie D. Anderson of
Woodville and by six grand-
children. Other survivors include
two brothers, Mr. Jesse Mathis,
Sicily Island, La., and her twin
brother, Charlie Mathis, of the
Darrington community, by five
sisters, Mrs. Will Joseph, Mead-
ville, Mrs. Lettie V. Floydm Cen-
treville, Mrs. M. M. Haynes,
Gloster and Mrs. Lydia Cavin,
Baton Rouge; a step-mother,
Mrs. ADA Mathis, Gloster, and a
number of nieces and Nephews.
