JOHN D ASHLEY
John was in SC from 1788 to 1799 (births of children).
John is listed in the 1802 MS early census index in MS
territory. Other info line shows "Petitioners".
A John was sued in SC in Kershaw co. for debts to a Nathaniel
Russell in 1795. A Jordan Ashley also was sued. This COULD BE a
relative, but I am unsure at this time. I am also unsure whether
this is my John, or the John in Kershaw co. who died in NC, a
son of Jordan Ashley, Sr.
John is listed in the 1805 Adams county, MS tax list.
John is listed in the 1820 census in Amite co. with: 1m
10-16(Hiram), 1m 16-26(Thomas), 1m45 & up(himself); 1f to

Mariah's death was recorded in the Woodville Republican February
28, 1835. She died on the 22nd after a severe illness of six
days. Her name was spelled " Maria Ashly ", and listed as wife
of John Ashley, Esq.
Mariah and John's marriage date and county were provided by a
cousin, but also found at Ancestry.com in their database for MS
marriage records to 1825. The date given there is June 28th,
1817

Elizabeth's parents granted their permission for her to marry.
Her marriage is listed in the Amite county Mississippi book 1
page 4. It was also found at Ancestry.com in their MS marriage
records to 1825 database.
Elizabeth's DOB is a guestimate based on her marriage date. She
needed permission to marry, so may have been young.

Mary's parents granted their permission for her to marry. The
license was issued May 5th. Source: Amite county, Mississippi
book 1 page 4. also found this marriage record at Ancestry.com
in the MS marriage records to 1825. Mary's name is not listed,
but her last name is, and I already had husband's name and their
marriage date, so I knew it was them.
Mary's DOB is a guestimate based on her marriage date.

William is listed in the 1810 MS Territorial Census in Amite
county.
William was granted 150 acres of land on the Amite River in
Wilkinson county prior to the county becoming Amite in 1809.

Sarah's marriage record is located in the Amite county,
Mississippi book 1 page 100. Also found online at Ancestry.com
in their MS marriage records to 1825 database. They have the
date as November 24, 1811. Same county.
Sarah's DOB is a guestimate based on her marriage date.

SUSANNA ASHLEY
Susan never married.
Claiborne county deed book O, 8-27-1834 to 10-22-1835 - deed
dated 10-15-1834: susana and Hiram sold 200-22/100 acres of land
in Claiborne county to John B. Thrasher. Deed notarized in Adams
county 10-15-1834, filed 4-22-1835 (page 257). This land may
have been inherited from their father.
In 1840, Susan seems to be in the household of her brother, John
Ashley, One female age 40-50, Maria (John's wife) had died.
In 1845, Susan is the head of household with one male, no names
given.
In 1850, Susan is living with her brother - Hiram Ashley. She is
listed in the 1850 Federal census in his h/h.
In 1860, Susan cannot be found.
In 1870, Susan is listed as 78 years old and living with her
brother, John Ashley.
In 1880, Susan is listed as 86 years old and living with her
nephew, Harvey Plumer Ashley.

JOHN ASHLEY
John's birthplace of SC is listed in his obituary.
John enlisted in the War of 1812 on January 6th, 1815 and was
discharged on March 31st, 1815. He was a private in the
Mississippi Militia. He served in W. A. Lucas' co. SC-13021
(this reference listed in a post to the Ashley-l mailing list
for rootsweb. I don't know yet what it means.)

Thomas was an election judge of the Upper Homachitta District in 1840
and again in 1847.
In 1850 many of the Wilkinson County men signed a letter of support
for Jefferson Davis.Thomas was not among them. Whether this was just
an oversight or if it was a matter of conscious we may never know.

Louisa's marker reads L. E. Perry and was homemade by her
grandson, Lloyd Ashley. It is made of cement.
In the 1910 census, Louisa stated that she had 10 children, only
6 living. A researcher left notes indicating that Willis and
Louisa had lost several children to measles and whooping cough.
One was a girl named Mary.
In 1917-1918, Louisa lived in Rosetta, MS according to her son's
draft registration for WWI.
Louisa died of heart failure.She is buried Columbus Phipps graveyard
on Turkey Creek Road.Her marker reads L.E. Perry.
